It started when dispatchers received the call at about 1:30 p.m., Marple police wrote in a statement. Officers arrived on the scene "in less than a minute" and were told that two people had been involved in an "altercation" outside on campus property, but both had left before police showed up, according to the release.
"An uninvolved third party who was near the altercation when it occurred thought a gun may have been displayed," police wrote.
"Within minutes," officers gave the all-clear, and the lockdown was lifted by administrators, though classes and other on-campus activities were canceled for the rest of the day.
"Because we realize that today’s lockdown may have been troubling for some students, faculty, and staff, the College is providing counseling," DCCC wrote in a statement. "Students can contact the College’s Counseling Center. Faculty and staff have been provided, via internal email, a website, and a phone number to call."
Marple police investigators said they are still working to identify the people involved in the "altercation" and if either of them had a gun.
